VOCs – Volatile Organic Compounds Testing
Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) are chemical pollutants released into the air from everyday materials and products, potentially causing health issues. A VOC testing assessment identifies and measures these compounds in your indoor environment to ensure air quality is safe.
The purpose of this assessment is to detect elevated VOC levels and identify possible sources of contamination. VOCs are commonly emitted from building materials, cleaning products, paints, and furnishings. Prolonged exposure can lead to respiratory issues, headaches, and other serious health concerns, especially for sensitive individuals.
The assessment is conducted following the International Association of Certified Indoor Air Consultants Standards of Practice, using advanced equipment for precise analysis.
VOC Testing Includes:
- We will perform:
- A non-invasive visual examination of the areas.
- Collection of air quality samples from designated areas in the building.
- Use of specialized equipment to measure VOC concentrations.
- Identification of potential sources contributing to elevated VOC levels.
- Collection of mold samples to verify air quality and surface cleanliness.
- For most cases, we recommend 1 sample. (included)
- 1 Interior VOC Test Sample
- Additional samples can be collected based on the size and complexity of the area.
- Air Quality or Swab Samples, if needed. (not Included)
- Additional samples can be collected based on the size and complexity of the area.
- 1 Interior VOC Test Sample
- VOC Testing Report:
- Includes a detailed report with findings, analysis of VOC levels, and recommendations to improve indoor air quality.

WHY IS VOC TESTING IMPORTANT?
- Protects Your Health:
- Prolonged exposure to VOCs has been linked to respiratory issues, headaches, and other serious health concerns. Identifying and addressing elevated VOC levels helps reduce health risks for your family or employees.
- Improves Air Quality:
- Testing for VOCs ensures that your indoor environment is safe by identifying harmful pollutants and their sources. This helps create a healthier, more comfortable space to live or work.
Hope Home Inspections, LLC does not offer remediation services for elevated VOC levels. For resolution, we recommend consulting an air quality specialist or licensed professional.

VOCs – Volatile Organic Compounds Testing
IF THERE WAS A WAY TO ENSURE YOU ARE BREATHING HEALTHY AIR IN YOUR HOME, WOULDN’T YOU WANT TO KNOW ABOUT IT?
Maintaining good indoor air quality is important for your health. According to the EPA, indoor air quality poses a greater health hazard than outdoor air pollution, with pollutant levels averaging 2-5 times higher than outside air. More than 80% of the homes measured for indoor air contaminants exceed recommended safe levels of airborne chemicals.
Products and materials present in our homes constantly emit chemicals, called Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) into the air. Exposure to VOCs can cause numerous health issues, from headaches and nausea to respiratory and digestive irritation to asthma exacerbation.
Babies, young children, pregnant women, older persons, and people with respiratory or cardiovascular disease can be more vulnerable to indoor air pollution. If your family is made up of any of these groups of people, then an air quality assessment would be wise.
Indoor air pollution is one risk that you can avoid if you are informed. A VOC test can give you peace-of-mind and put you on the path to a healthier home.
WHY TEST?
- Newer, more energy-efficient homes do not “breathe” correctly. Home Air Check could potentially discover HVAC (freon) issues so they can be corrected.
- Carpet, vinyl and laminate flooring, cabinets, counter tops, and other building materials use adhesives that “off-gas” continuously for years. Many are manufactured using hazardous chemicals, some that can cause cancer.
- Many man made materials contain formaldehyde, which is a known human cancer-causing agent, including engineered wood products (particle board, plywood, MDF, flooring, etc.), personal care and cleaning products, glues, paints and coatings and air fresheners. It is also a byproduct of fuel-burning appliances, fireplaces, tobacco smoke and more.
- MVOCs are Volatile Organic Compounds that molds produce and are an indication of active mold growth.
